Lisa at Riverview Wellbeing Therapies was invaluable to me in preparing for and conducting a long-distance charity bicycle ride. The event was well beyond anything I had ever attempted (675 miles over ten days with almost 30,000 feet of climbing) and I was finding it difficult to manage my mind as my training rides grew in length and the ride planning became more complex. I got in touch with Lisa, and she put together a series of sessions based around sports visualisation, a technique used by many successful elite athletes. The idea is that Lisa helps you to imagine a complete 24-hour period of the ride, so you can mentally picture what a successful day looks like. During the challenge, when the going gets tough, your brain will then believe that you have already completed days similar to this before and this helps with your self-belief that you are going to be successful. Lisa’s coaching was fantastic. Using the framework and methods she taught me I was able to harness the images and feelings we had run through when things were particularly tough, and let my mind run free when things were going well (the concept of ‘flow’, another thing we explored during our sessions). I found that my training rides were that bit easier thanks to Lisa’s help, and when the actual ride came around her techniques helped me to get through some really gruelling days in the saddle. I completed the ride successfully despite an almost constant headwind, some very wet weather and a lot of steep climbs, and I’m indebted to Lisa for helping me along the way.

Lisa is just wonderful. Such a lovely lady, she is very professional and personable. Her own experiences make the sessions very relatable, I always felt very at ease and time with her was extremely relaxing. I learnt so much with her regarding positive thinking and came away with tools for a much more positive mindset.

Lisa sent me her relaxation session to listen to as I was having trouble getting off to sleep and staying asleep. Her voice is lovely to listen to (she sounds like Hermoine Norris) and I was asleep before the end of the session. I’ve used it a few times and hear different things each time so it doesn’t feel like you’re listening to the same session. Would love to try hypnotherapy sessions with her but live too far away!

Lisa is just fantastic at her job! Professional, friendly and knowledgable. I am so thankful for all of the support after attending hynobirthing sessions while pregnant with my son who was born 31st July 2019. Harry William Ironmonger. (see pic below) After a difficult couple of years and two losses, Lisa helped me maintain a positive outlook on this third pregnancy by helping me relax in our weekly sessions and teaching me self hypnosis. Lisa also helped me focus on feeling in control which brought a sense of calm to my day to day. (She even took time to explain the science behind the brain along with diagrams!) The whole experience totally empowered me and I felt excited for the birth and without fear... yes this is actually true! The techniques she taught me were simple, effective and straight forward. I felt completely prepared and in control, something needed with being induced and having a 24+ hour labour resulting in a C-section! I highly recommend anyone to try hypnotherapy and especially for birth along with other holistic remedies. (The high doses of pain relief were also much appreciated may I add!) I believe the mind is extremely powerful and we are able to help ourselves more if we know how- all with he help of a professional like Lisa. My midwife also complimented me on how relaxed and calm I was throughout a lot of the difficult and most painful part of my birth. Yes it was extremely painful but I will say hypnobirthing reduced my stress and eliminated my fear/anxiety. I will definitely be back to see her soon no doubt and will continue to practice self hypnosis.

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy

Solution-Focused Brief Therapy (SFBT) is a short-term, goal-oriented therapy that focuses on helping you to achieve your desired outcomes. During SFBT sessions, Lisa works with you to identify your desired outcomes, develop a plan to achieve those outcomes and build on your strengths and resources.

SFBT is based on the belief that you are already capable of solving your own problems and Lisa’s role is to help you identify and mobilise your own resources. SFBT can be helpful for a variety of issues, including anxiety and depression, relationship problems, stress management, pain management, parenting challenges, career issues, and life transitions.

Integrative Counselling

Counselling is a type of talking therapy that can help you cope with a variety of issues, including mental health conditions, physical health conditions, difficult life events, and difficult emotions. This is due to helping you to gain a better understanding of your feelings and thoughts. As a result, it helps you to develop coping skills, make positive changes in your life, resolve conflict, improve your relationships, increase your self-awareness, and boost your confidence and self-esteem.

Counselling is a confidential and supportive process. Lisa will listen to you without judgment and help you to explore your problems at your own pace. She will not tell you what to do but may make suggestions to help you find your own solutions. Lisa ‘s integrative approach combines Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Attachment Therapy.

Muss Rewind Therapy

Muss Rewind Therapy (MRT) is a brief psychological intervention that has been shown to be effective in treating a variety of trauma-related symptoms, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). MRT is based on the idea that trauma is stored in the memory in a way that can be easily triggered, leading to distressing symptoms.

MRT has been shown to be effective in reducing a variety of trauma-related symptoms, including flashbacks, nightmares, anxiety, and depression. It has also been shown to improve sleep quality, self-esteem, and overall quality of life.

MRT uses guided imagery to help you visualise the trauma by imagining watching it on a cinema screen but also changing the ending.  It can be conducted in one to three sessions within an assumption that Lisa and you have already formed a therapeutic and trusting relationship in earlier sessions. Lisa wants to ensure you feel safe and trust that you will leave the session feeling no worse than when you arrived and therefore a full explanation is given before the intervention, which only lasts a few minutes, begins. Further information can be found at the link above.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a state of focused attention and low emotional arousal where one’s critical faculties are lowered. Or a deep mental relaxation, a collaboration with the client and direct or indirect suggestion.

Hypnosis can be experienced as a trance like state which is an everyday occurrence. Its like when you reflect on a car journey and realise you can’t remember parts of it. Or like at school when you are gazing out of the window. But if a tractor pulls in front of your car or the teacher calls your name you are instantly back in the moment. You are always in control.

Lisa offers indirect trance where she helps you imagine a favoured day off or past time, for example watching a sunrise or floating in a boat on a calm lake. This part of the session allows you time to process your thoughts which might be about the talking part of the session or wherever your mind takes you.

Lisa’s clients have been known to describe it as extremely relaxing experience. No mention of your issue is mentioned in the trance. Hypnotherapy can be helpful for anxiety, low mood, pain, and creating a calmer mind.
